Census360 is an independent, India-specific population data platform, built on the 2011 Census of India — the last full national count. Every figure on the site is that 2011 count, clearly labelled as such; nothing here is projected forward to a current-year estimate.
One country, drilled all the way down
India last held a full census in 2011. Most existing tools either freeze at that year or treat India as a single line item inside a global dataset. Census360 exists to fill that gap — a resource that drills down through state → district → town, with the granularity that comes from focusing on one country.
Ward- and village-level data are the next layer we’re building toward.
What you'll find here
- Profiles at every level — state, district and town, covering population, literacy rate, sex ratio, density and decadal growth (density and growth are state-level figures; the census abstract carries no land area for districts or towns, so both are genuinely unavailable below state level, not just unpublished).
- Maps and rankings — a choropleth map of every state, and national rankings for states and districts across every indicator the census carries.
- A transparent methodology — sourcing, scope and every caveat in the data are set out in one place, not buried in a footnote.
- A comparison tool — line up multiple states side by side on the same metrics today; district and town comparison are on the roadmap.
- A growing dataset — town-level profiles were the most recent addition; ward and village depth are next.

Our approach to data
Today, every figure on Census360 comes from one source: the Census of India 2011 Primary Census Abstract, covering 35 states and union territories, 640 districts and 8,027 census towns.
The Sample Registration System, NFHS survey rounds and the Registrar General’s population projection reports are sources we’re evaluating for a future estimation layer. Until that ships, nothing on the site is projected — every number you see is what was actually counted in 2011. Full sourcing and every caveat are in the Methodology.
