Literacy stood at 72.32%, 0.7 points below the national 72.98% — 4.6 points above the Uttar Pradesh average. That ranked it 315th of 640 districts nationally. The gap between male and female literacy was 21.6 points, 5.3 points above the national gap of 16.3.

The largest was Allahabad (M Corp.), with 11,12,544 people. That put 24.7% of the district in urban areas, 2.5 points above the Uttar Pradesh share of 22.3%.
