Cachar

With 17,36,617 people at the 2011 Census, Cachar was the 278th most populous of India's 640 districts and the 4th most populous of Assam's 27. That is 5.6% of everyone living in Assam at the time.

Literacy stood at 79.34%, 6.4 points above the national 72.98% — 7.2 points above the Assam average. That ranked it 172nd of 640 districts nationally. The gap between male and female literacy was 11.1 points, 5.2 points below the national gap of 16.3.
