Visakhapatnam

With 42,90,589 people at the 2011 Census, Visakhapatnam was the 44th most populous of India's 640 districts and the 5th most populous of Andhra Pradesh's 23. That is 5.1% of everyone living in Andhra Pradesh at the time.

Literacy stood at 66.91%, 6.1 points below the national 72.98% — level with the Andhra Pradesh average. That ranked it 448th of 640 districts nationally. The gap between male and female literacy was 15.2 points, 1.0 points below the national gap of 16.3.

The sex ratio was 1006 women per 1,000 men (13 above the Andhra Pradesh figure of 993) — one of the minority of districts where women outnumbered men. Among children aged 0–6 the ratio was 961, 43 above the national 918.

The largest urban settlement was the part of GVMC falling inside the district, with 9,77,771 people. That put 47.5% of the district in urban areas, 14.1 points above the Andhra Pradesh share of 33.4%.
